Superstitions are some of the misconceptions that people have been thinking about for ages. This prejudice exists everywhere in a town or village. Some belief for the sake of fate, some believe for the sake of religion. Unbelievable but true that even big celebrities believe in these superstitions and evil practices. Some belief in a certain number, some believe in a certain color, and some try to change their destiny by wearing brand clothes or shoes. Some car racers do not shave in the morning on race days. Again, if an accident ever happens, then everything around that accident becomes unlucky. There are also some superstitions among NASCAR car drivers. They believe that some things keep their nerves calm before an exciting race and miraculously help them win the race. Although superstitions have nothing to do with car races, Formula Car races are for those who don’t want to take any risks. Many people also think the number plate of the car is lucky or unlucky. The number of plates of NASCAR and Moto GP drivers are not changed but the car number plates of Formula Car racers are changed almost every year according to their rank. In 2014, when the F-1 drivers were asked to take the permanent number of their choice, a strange excitement spread among them. They are obsessed with choosing the number plate of the car according to their destiny. And this fact proves once again that there is still a lot of superstition in the racing world about car number plates.
Clothes
Some racers participate in races wearing the same clothes over and over again without thinking of anything else. They think that certain clothes also play a role in winning or losing a race. It’s ridiculous to hear, but it’s true that they believe in it too. Driver Brian Scott said he has heard from some drivers that being on the right side of the human body brings good luck. When wearing any clothes or anything else, you have to open it from the right side first and when you take it off, you have to open it from the left side. MotoGP driver Valentino Rossi used to adhere to this clothing superstition letter by letter before each of his races.
Two types of shoes for two feet
Alex Warz, the Austrian car racer, was the most criticized for wearing two types of shoes on both feet. Another myth is that racers often wear two types of socks on their feet. Stefano Madonna’s superstition was even more bizarre! He wore gloves while driving and kept them open inside another car. Which made it difficult for him to drive. Yet he followed his own style.
Lucky Charm
Many racers hang something with the front mirror of their car. Hanging on that thing will save him from danger or help him win the race. Someone draws religious pictures or symbols on the dashboard or puts pictures of loved ones. A keyring that looks like a lucky coin or a rabbit’s foot is all part of the superstition. Since race car drivers have been in the car for a long time, they take comfort in keeping their minds safe from danger with these things.
Italian Race and NASCAR driver Tezio Nuvolari used a tortoise pin. She thought it was her lucky skin. He wore it as an amulet! Famous racer Sebastien Vettel kept a coin with him which he considered his ‘lucky coin’. There are many others who carry a lot of things for their own good which they prefer to keep hidden.
Conversation with car
Some drivers chase the car for speeding. Many do this while on the racing track. While ridiculous, this is normal for a driver. Racer Valentino Rossi said he used to kneel in front of his motorcycle and talk to the motorcyclist just before the start of the race. He further added that this is for his own sake, he is doing it for his own peace of mind.
Get in the car on the left
It may seem strange to do the same thing over and over again, but most car race drivers do a lot of that. Usually, they get in the car from the left side. Nico Hoganberg and Mark Weber, two F-1 drivers, though it was lucky to get into the car from the left. Joan Pablo is always on the same side, fastening seatbelts, in the same way, getting in the car and racing. Similarly, drivers are seen to follow this rule while riding a motorcycle.
Unlucky Thirteen
The number 13 is always considered unlucky. The number of cars in the NASCAR race is never 13. Joe Weatherly once finished 13th in a race but was ranked 12th. But in 2014, when all formula drivers were asked to choose the number of their choice, Pastor Maldonado chose the number 13.
Eating certain foods
Danica Patrick said she is not a superstitious person. But there are some foods that he eats in the morning on race days that help him retain his energy. Sterling Marilyn once won by eating a sandwich and since then she has eaten a sandwich before every race. Australian NASCAR driver Marcos Ambrose also ate certain foods before the race.
Peanut shell
Drivers are never allowed to bring peeled peanuts where NASCAR is competing. They think peeled Chinese nuts bring bad luck. Such a decision has been taken in the context of two accidents. When the first accident occurred in Langharn, the car lost control within seconds and injured some spectators, some of whom died. Another accident happened during a race at the Fair Grounds in Nashville. Then 4/5 vehicles collided and one driver died. Witnesses said peanut shells were found lying at the scene of the two accidents. Many more car racing accidents have seen peanut shells fall off, leading to a ban on peanuts from the entire racing ground.
Green car
The superstition of this green car dates back to 1920 when Louis Chevrolet died while racing in a green car. Since then, green cars have been dropped from the drivers’ list. Since then they have always refused to use this unlucky colored car.
The point is not only to avoid bad luck but also to bring good luck. Racing car drivers choose this life to see themselves in a place of fame and glory. And some racers only race cars to win the hearts of the fans. And some prefer to spend some exciting time just for fun. Some like to talk about their fears while others suppress the whole thing so that the opponent does not know about his weakness.
